2022 Season Recap

Thursday, June 22 2023

The 2022 cross country season began with both high expectations and uncertainty. Both teams were coming off great seasons in 2021, including the boys’ team who captured their first state championship. With no seniors on either side in 2021, both teams had high expectations in 2022. However, those expectations also came with uncertainty because for the first time, the LHSAA cross country classes were now changed to divisions, and our new division was filled with perennial state championship schools who were previously in other classes.

Both teams started off strong out of the gate and had top three team finishes at the St. Michael Bayou Boogie. However, as the season progressed, the competition became much stiffer, and it seemed like each week became a pre-state meet because most of the state contenders were in our own region. Heading into the state meet, both teams’ expectations were still high but guarded. The boys’ and girls’ teams finished third and fourth respectively at the regional meet the week before, but we were still confident in having a strong showing at the state meet. On a cold day in Natchitoches, our girls’ team improved from an eighth-place finish from the previous year and placed sixth. Our boys’ team once again showed the heart of a champion as they did the previous year and once again claimed the state championship, easily distancing themselves from a loaded field of teams.

Five team members were named to the EBR All-Metro Cross Country Team.  Brynlie Monistere, Caleb Whipp, and Ethan Delatte were named honorable mention all-metro, and both Kohl Feucht and Aiden Monistere were named first team all-metro. Coach Chad Landry was named as the boys’ metro coach of the year.
